Question 95 Jgc

'95 JGC, replaced intake manifold gaskets... still eating oil. Not blowing any smoke, no drips. Any thoughts to what it might be??? (Been 3 wks since it's has been to the shop. Put some cleaner in it, has went down 1/2 a quart)

Re: 95 Jgc

Welcome to AF shortnsneaky!!

Is this a Grand Cherokee like you title says... (Cherokee forum)........ No prob... we'll deal with it here...

What engine is in your jeep???

What causes oil consumption????

:PCV system can contribute

:Valve guides

:Ring and cylinder wear

:oil dilution (with gas) from short trips in cool weather can look like sudden oil consumption after a trip on the highway but you are just burning the gas that replaced the oil you already burned so............

How many miles on your jeep????

Have you had a compression test done recently??

What is the exact amount consumed in say (1500) miles?

Every engine uses some oil. I would rather see an engine use a quart in 1000 miles or even 6 or 800 miles than not even use that much in 5000 miles - that is if it is not leaking it..... you know then that it is receiving lubrication. Using a quart in 1500 - 2000 miles is a nice comfortable rate that many expect and sort of panic if those expectations are under achieved.

Warrenty for excessive oil consumption on new vehicles usually doesn't kick in untill a quart is used in under 600 documented miles.

let us know some of the answers to the questions from above and we can talk about it.

What engine is in your jeep??? V8 5.2L

How many miles on your jeep???? 103,700

Have you had a compression test done recently?? No

What is the exact amount consumed in say (1500) miles?

(April 4, all oil was gone - 5 qts, had the intake manifold gaskets replaced. Took it in July 1 for oil change (been about 2,000 miles, mostly city driving - 5 qts disappeared again.) Put in 5 qts, some cleaner, did some freeway driving to get the RPMs up there (probably 120 miles) lost what looked like a quart. Filled it July 2(was actually only short 1/2 quart). Been checking everyday, it looks like I'm down 1/2 quart since July 2.

Just a little bewildered, wasn't sure if another seal was going, or if the seals just didn't settle from the first time. (Concerned with money and am trying to figure out what options I have - or what possessed my Jeep??)

Thanks for responding!! :-)
