replacing shocks
got a 99 envoy that needs back shocks replaced. it is equipped w/ auto leveling shocks. does anyone have any pointers before i go diving into this project. i will also be doing the front, but those look pretty straight forward.

If it is air shocks I would personaly take it to a shop sorry on help.

thanks, but need some advice. will be doing it today. it looks simple enough. i'll let you know how it goes. i bought monroe air max shocks for the back ahd monroe reflex for the front. should be fairly easy to install. although it's going to be about 100 F today. wish me luck.

done! took me and my brother 3hrs to do. front went really well. they were right, just two 18mm wrenches and your there. just remember to compress them when taking them out and back in. pull them through the top of the a arms. the back were even easier. two top screws and bottom were two 21mm wrenches. disconnect the air lines and they come right out. be sure to cut the fittings of the end of the air lines before you hook up to the new air max shocks. there is instructions on how to hook up the new air lines with the new shocks. anyone have any questions just ask.

I guess I was wrong, I had a car that had the self leveling shocks. They were not that easy to change. I apoligise I was wrong. (just dont tell my wife)

That's good to hear that it was a straightforward install. How are the Monroe Shocks? Did they improve the ride? I have a 99 Envoy, as well, with 73k miles. It seems more bouncy than it used to be, and since it doesn't sound too bad, I might replace mine. Thanks.

the air max on the back are pretty standard. but i can still tell a difference in the ride. if you are looking for a truck like ride the reflex are great on the front. i like to take mine off road once in a while (hence suv) . if your looking for more of car like ride i recommend going with something a bit softer, but beware you may have to replace them more often due to the weight. over all it was well worth it for around 150 bucks in parts. it would have been an extra 200 just in labor
