Angry paint chipping!

Hey everyone. I was polishing my Silvia and the paint chipped. I got a lil anxious and started polishing a little early. DOH! Anyways, is the paint more prone to chipping if you polish the model to early...i didnt wait a week or two like I think you should! AHHH!

-Chris Maybe apply more clear next time, would that help?

Yes you can shoot HOK Uerthane in that brush no problem. I doubt that the chipping has anything to do with polishing too soon, my guess is that there was some contamination of the primer.

Re: paint chipping!

I had problem once with paint chipping. But then it was also the primer chipping away at the same time. The reason was that the body was too smooth,it didnīt provide any grip for the primer.

or maybe just wasnt washed, models use to have a small membrane of oil on the from the molds that they are being made in.

Re: paint chipping!

Well, i didnt sand the body before priming. What grit should I sand the body with before priming? Thanks for all the replies ...I really appreciate it!

Re: paint chipping!

I always use 800 to get rid of the mold lines and the imperfections, then 1000 grit sand paper before primer. Don't forget to wash the model with some soapy water though.

Re: paint chipping!

MidMazar said it. I used ( when the paint and primer chipped) 3600 polishingcloth to check that all was babybottom smooth, and it proved too fine for the paint to get a grip.
