what was nissan thinking when they put the alt at the bottom of the truck

how much would it cost to re route it up top. part and time to do it. also have you all had you alternator go bad while going through deep mud or a creek. that would realy suck miles from a road

Trust me, well-known and well-researched problem. There is nothing cost-effective to do about it. Best hope was to convert to the 96-01 Pathfinder accessory layout that swapped the alternator and power steering pump, but it would require custom power steering hoses to be made up plus a few expensive brackets.
Get a "lifetime" alternator from Napa or wherever sells one and get a new one free when you need one.

The problem with that is if you take in wheel'n and get it all caked up with mud and debris, they won't cover that under warranty. Best just to avoid deep mud water all together. I learned that this past weekend.

Re: what was nissan thinking when they put the alt at the bottom of the truck

We had one go bad in our 2000. Not only is the location retarded from a practibility standpoint, but the part was expensive and had to be ordered. Plus it's a pain to install. I'd hate to think if you were stranded on a trail.

Having dealt with the issue already, the first thing I did when we looked at the 05's was crack the hood and locate the alternator. Suprise, suprise...it's on the bottom again, and this time looks like the frame will be in your way. *sigh*
