Question Removing Speakers???

Hey guys...new to this board. I just bought a Spec-V like 2 days ago...absolutely love it. Got a good deal too.

So i tried replacing the rear deck speakers yesterday with no sucess. I couldn't even get the damn mounting plates off. Does anyone know how to get the rear deck speakers out? And are they 6.5's? Also...any ideas on the front door speakers as well? Thanks for the help.

RE: Removing Speakers???

Hey man,

I will be having the same difficulty that you are in a couple days. I just got my Spec V the other day, so I haven't had time to investigate very hard on the topic of removing the rear speakers. But, I can give you this advice. Check http://216.40.240.33/images/stereo-s...r-speakers.jpg for a pictoral guide. I got this from B15Sentra.net. It is a pretty informative site.

The problem though, is that it tells you that you need to fold down the rear seats... well, I happen to have purchased a spec V without the audio fanatic package. It appears that without the fanatic package, I do not have the option to fold down the rear seats. So, If you, or anyone else has any ideas? I would love some help on this one!

Good luck! If you have fold downs, the instructions should help a bunch.

Hey...thanks man. That diagram helps alot even though i too didn't buy the audio fanatic package. The rear deck looks exactly the same in the pic and i think you can still get to the clips behind the seat without fold downs. The only diff. is the rear brake light. Thanks again for the input and enjoy the Spec V.

fold down seat

hey jimi

I figured out how to fold down the seat. It has three hooks... top right, top left, and top center. It's hard explain what they look like, but I will try. Imagine them as sort of like a coat rack. The seat has a horizontal bar that hooks over a double hook on the frame of the car.
What you have to do is lift up on the seat. Get a good grip on the seat and push it up toward the rear window. When you have it up then pull toward the front of the car. It should come free. You will probably have to start on one side, and then do the other.

I don't have my speakers yet, so I haven't explored any further. I am still confused about how to get the grill off in order to actually get at the speaker. It seems to me that you don't really have to take the whole rear bench area apart to just change out the speaker? But I don't know. I just can't figure out how to get that grill off. I don't want to pry it off and break it. When you figure it out, please let me know!!!

I heard another guy say that he did the whole speaker exchange without taking anything apart. He said he was able to loosed the screws from the trunk, then push the speaker up and pull it down through the whole. I don't see how that would work. maybe if it was a 6x9? Anyhow... good luck.

Hey GB thanks for the info, I was gonna post a question about how to fold the seats down for those who dont have the audio package. I'm gonna try to fold the seats down tomorrow.

OT: Jimi do you have a dark color Spec V? I'm asking because I spotted one last week driving North bound on I91.

Hey GB...thanks for the info on the seats...it'll definitley help my sorry ass with getting those back speakers replaced.

And TriStateGuy...yeah...i do have a dark colored Spec-V. It's actually black with tints and a sunroof windvisor. It might have been me on 91...although i don't remember going on it in the past week. Maybe 84? So where in CT do you live? I'm form Berlin...home of the "Turnpike"...i'm sure you've been up there a few times.

Lightbulb removing rear bench and grilles

I got my Infinity Kappas from the UPS guy today. So, I took the afternoon off from my landscaping project, and decided to work on the install.

I was succesful. Though it took me much longer than it should have. Here is the whole story, so that you guys won't have to waste any time with it.

Follow the diagram on that link from earlier.
here are some tips to make it easier.

1.) unhook the rear seat and fold it down a bit.
2.) You can't really fold it all the way down, because the seat belts get in the way. But you can pull it down far enough to get at what you need to.
3.) Pull off the rear pillars. They each have six round white clips that take some effort to pull out. But they will come out if you tug. Be careful of the rear defrost wire. You can pull the wire out of its hole in the pillar before you remove the whole pillar.
4.) Here's the one that got me... The grilles. You don't want to take the grilles off, they are part of the rear panel and connot be removed. Think of it this way... the entire rear carpeted area from door to door is one large grille. It is really just a large fiberglass carpeted panel with the grilles in the middle of it. It fits on top of the actual steel rear deck. So, when the instructions ask you to remove the panel, you will then have access to the speakers. I kicked myself when I finally got it. I am so dense sometimes.
5.) The rest of it is really easy... with one exception. getting the pillars back on. When I did it, most of the little while clips came off still attached to the plastic pillar. A few stuck with the car. If this happens, you need to pry the clips off the steel with a flathead screwdriver and then reattach them to the plastic pillar cover. If not, you will not be able to get them all to clip back in properly. Also, the same flathead screwdriver makes it a lot easier to fit the weatherstripping back over the top of the plastic.

Anyhow... it really isn't that hard to do.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to email me. [email protected]

Good luck!

next project is the front speakers, but I think I am just going to pay Circuit City to do it. My time is worth more to me than what I will pay them, so it works out better for me that way.
