Caravan 3.3L cranks but will not start! Please help-It's driving me nuts!

Hello. I have a '98 Dodge Caravan, 3.3L automatic. It died when pulled up to a stop sign and will not start. I have had a mechanic look at it, and he said that the fuel pump (first thing I was told could be the problem) is fine. He's told me he has switched out all the electrical components with test parts. Still no spark. Been told now to check my timing, as that may cause this as well, and will do so this afternoon. Any other ideas, suggestions? Thanks very much.

hi,

i don't want to make you mad, but it sounds you have both problems i had....
My voyager goes 60 miles /h and just shut off...and couldn't be restarted untill a couple of days.
So i changed all common things i knew, like, Map sensor plugs, wires, O2sensor, Fuel Filter and so on, with no help. The day after same thing, i was really pissed. So i pulled the Tank to see if there's something floating around, but nothing....clean as it can be.
As i put the fuel pump back into the tank, Oups, i broke a fuel line stud(crap) can't replace it, so i bought a new fuel pump assembly $208@O`Reilly and never had a problem again.....*lol*
Well, a few month down the road, one morning on my way to work....you guessed it.... 60 miles an hour it just shut off, and wouldn't restart, but this time, somehow it sounded different, so i pulled the Distributor Cap and cranked the engine, well No movement on the Cams, that meant "Broken Timing Belt" because it's a non interference Engine *luckyme*i changed timing belt and water pump, and since then it runs like a charme!
P.S. check your timing belt , first, then get a new, or Salvage Fuel Pump
that should fix the problem.... BTW New Pumps of the dealer shelfs... 4 out off 10 are already bad.....i know thats bad but true!

good luck to you!

Update

Well, after three mechaincs, the problem was found and fixed. It turned out to be a defective Crankshaft sensor. Just letting everyone know, in case you run across this same issue. Don't overlook that part-the first two mechanics did. Hope this helps someone out there!

The crankshaft sensor caused my Gr Caravan to die also.....and then later it would start right up. Its located in the transaxle housing.
