Another important step in recording the MR2's History
Another Registry has been added to the official MR2 registry page:
http://www.mr2ownersclub.com/mr2records/mr2records.htm Only MR2s reaching or surpassing speeds of 150 mph will be added. All entries must have documentation from official race results or timeslips. Videos are highly encouraged. Photos are expected. There is one video on there now. If you can build an MR2 that surpasses 150 you should be able to work a digital camera ... or at least know someone who can If anyone has information online of other MR2 land speed attemps, please link me.

Re: Another important step in recording the MR2's History
150mph seems a bit well.....easy. I mean, my mate has a rev 3 turbo and we've had it doing 160mph.
However, for a good car that has been imported to the UK, you need look no further than this video: http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/index.php?nam...wtopic&t=18409 It was taken at the Japanese Auto Extravaganza. The car is a special street racer with a massive turbo and intercooler. The car has been Rolling Roaded at over 600bhp from what I understand, but sadly on this attempt it blew a fuel pipe and then on the second run, it had a massive misfire on boost, probably due to the car being mapped for a different grade of fuel when it was mapped in Japan. On the second run it got a measly 350bhp. Just listen to the tinny turbo whistle as it winds up. Was awesome to see in the flesh.

Doing 150 is one thing.
Doing a verifiable 150 is something else. Speedometers are worthless.

Re: Another important step in recording the MR2's History
I have no idea waht this is: "Tom Tom sat nav"
I've never heard of it. Regardless, that is a records page and is designed for people attempting sincere records at legitimate events. Playing around on the street will not be accepted as a submission. Land speed racing, just like drag racing, road racing and hill climbing is a sport and it will be treated like such. Accepting speedometer readings for LSR is the equivalent to accepting G-tech results for the 1/4-mile.

Re: Another important step in recording the MR2's History
Tom Tom is a well known (in the UK) brand of satalite navigation which uses gps. gives you pretty accurate speeds.
I didn't expect my mate's car to go one the site, what I was saying was that if a standard turbo is capable of 160mph, then speed records of 150mph seemed a little slow.

Re: Another important step in recording the MR2's History
The MR2, as it came into the US from 91-95, had an estimated top speed of 150.
Again, doing 150+ and documenting 150+ are two different things. I just located a place that does 1-mile land speed record races that is about 10 hours from me. I am considering going there to open up Hyde and see what I can do in the 1 mile. I am confident that I can surpass 150 if my engine hold s together
