Hi,
I have a question. I own a 2003 Silverado, 4W/D, V-8. I keep getting a message from the odometer area that is telling me to "change engine oil", even though I have changed it a number of times. The owners manual tells me this should happen after I change oil, but it doesn't. I can find no resets and diffent people are telling me to try this and that but so far no good. If anyone out there can help, please let me know. Thanks for your help. Fred |

It's in the manual how to reset it,I think it is turn the battery on and push the gas padel 3 times,or something like that.I'll have to check though.

turn the key to the "on" position and step on the gas 5 times then ur battery light should flash 4 or 5 times where the change engine oil light and then it wont do it for about 5-6000 miles again

Re: Change oil message
If you have the D.I.C. and you have steering wheel controls - you simply get the engine oil percentage to show in the DIC then use the right button on the steering wheel and HOLD IT DOWN to reset. Of course - this is only if you have the DIC and steering wheel controls.

Re: Change oil message
What does the DIC use to know when to change the oil? Does it just go by mileage from last reset or does it use some more sophisticated criteria? My truck has 2000 miles on it, but the DIC says it still has about 80% oil life. At that rate, it won't tell me to change oil until about 10,000 miles.

Re: Change oil message
Here's a hell of an article from a guy who knows quite a bit about the GM Oil Life Monitor system.
