86 Cimarron dash display problems

I am getting my 86 Cimarron ready to give to my daughter for her 18th birthday, and would like to get info about the electronic display. When I first got the car (paid a friend $1 for it) the fuse was out of the panel because the power antennae is on the same circuit and it ran all the time, so to check the guages you had to reach down and plug the fuse in. All the read-outs worked fine. I fixed the antennae and after a while the display read "ERROR" where it used to read the mileage. It stayed that way for a few months and then tonight as I was driving home the display went blank, then came back on, then went blank again. When it first came back on the milage read 000000 and the trip odometer read 1000 miles. It did not change for several miles, then the display went blank and has not come back on. How do I troubleshoot this? Thanks, Neal [email protected]

Neal,

if your display head unit is bad, just get it rebuilt for under $100.
there is an e-bay shop that does GM units as well as Audi/VW/Jag etc.
I will see if I still have the site and post it or email you.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AUDI-...BUILD-A4-A6-90

this is the site for my Audi's display unit.
this store/shop does GM as well, so they might be easier (and less expensive) than buying one from the dealer.

hope this helps,
ctesla
