Denver Pit Bull Owners in a Panic Over Ban

Story

Quote:
Since May, more than 380 dogs have been impounded and at least 260 destroyed — an average of more than three a day.

I don't care if a certain dog has killed 5 or 500 people the government has NO RIGHT to come in and take your property and destroy it.

if I owned one of the dogs, I would at least sue the city for damages or something.

um, if that specific dog has killed someone (maliciously, of course, not on accident or in defense), that specific dog should be put down. this isnt about property rights.

but as for targeting a specific breed of dog because they might have a slightly higher tendency towards violence...well thats just stupid. cars kill alot of people, and you dont see anyone trying to take cars off the road.

I agree but I'm talking about a whole breed of dogs. It doesn't matter if a breed has killed 5 or 500 it doesn't give the government a right to come in and destroy your property.

Re: Denver Pit Bull Owners in a Panic Over Ban

i hate when people single out a dog, any dog can attack and kill people, they just over play pitbulls, i know people who have some mean ass pitbulls and some that have pitbulls that are as nice as u could get, its all about how you train them, you could train a chihuahua to kill,........here in some small town in oklahoma a kid was attacked by a pitbull and the dog was put down for attacking it, but then someone decided to go kill an innocent pitbull out of retaliation...pricks i hope they get attacked by one

When did this happen and what town was it? I don't remember seeing it in the Tulsa World or on the news.

Dude, you know how freaking stupid alot of these laws are getting? New and idiotic laws are as abundant as frivilous (sp?) lawsuits much like the one where your house can be bought out and destoryed because ''its better for the community"

Re: Denver Pit Bull Owners in a Panic Over Ban

The problem is that most pitbull owners want mean dogs, so they make sure that their pitbull is a mean dog - frankly I'd be happier if Denver kicked the owners out of town and let the dogs stay... Unfortunately this is backlash from a number of nasty pitbull related injuries and deaths that have happened in recent years in Colorado. Nobody wants their children mauled to death by some asshole's dog - and if it just happens that pitbulls have been doing the mauling, then of course pitbulls will recieve the blame (rightfully so) even though I think it has alot to do with the owner, not just the breed of dog.
If the owners would keep their animals in check, they wouldn't have to face a seemingly superflous law.

It is a damn shame that the animals are being put down. I hope that the ony ones being terminated are the ones who are vicious and the others can find a home out of town.

Here in md they have similar laws either banning pitbulls in certain ares or having to have them in confined ares. Just recently I had to put mine down after it attacked my 2 other dogs. I agree that the dog is only as vicious as the owner. I never once had a problem with her attacking any other dog or any person. It was common site for her to guard my own infant from me!! Come to think of it.... they shoulxd put down german shepards. My friend owns one, that has attacked 6 ppl over the last 2 years without cause. Seriously wounded one guy. That dog hasnt is even filed with with aacac as a repeat offender.

I think that yes overly aggressive dogs that have had instances of attacks should be held accountable. Singling out this breed is completely unjust. Chow-chow's are much more commonly known to attack children than any pitbull I have ever seen or known of. Nobody is going after those furballs of rage though.

Re: Denver Pit Bull Owners in a Panic Over Ban

A miniature poodle bit my ankle once, so we should kill all miniature poodles - they're dangerous.

^The above is an example of what is happening in Denver. They are taking ALL pit bulls to be killed. I have met many pit bulls, and most of them are the sweetest dogs you'd want to meet.

If a dog is trained to be violent, it is the owners that should be put in jail.

Re: Denver Pit Bull Owners in a Panic Over Ban

Welcome to Canada or as i like to call it CNONA aka the Communist Nation Of North America

They should put higher penalties on the owners of dogs that attack. Banning the breed is like a dog holocaust, singling out an entire breed because of the actions of maybe 2% of the entire population is completely unjust. Whoever is behind this is the equivelent to Hitler except for dogs.
