Amps robbing system of sound

I just installed my Lightning Audio amp and sub. I'm using my factory head unit, so I had to use the high output connectors(hook them up to your right/left rear speakers). Now that I've got it installed my sub is taking my signal and not allowing it to get to my rear speakers when the amp is on. Anyone know how to fix this?

get an aftermarket head unit with pre-outs for your amp.

Re: Amps robbing system of sound

If possible I'd like to keep the factory head unit. I just sold my 1g Talon and am going to get a 95 or 96 Talon when I find a good deal. More than likely it will have an aftermarket deck already in it. So this is in my winter beater which I dont want to spend very much money on.

I agree with him.

Re: Amps robbing system of sound

How did you wire your amp to your rear speakers?

You need to get a converter that take the signal from the head unit and converts it to RCA outputs

Re: Amps robbing system of sound

The amp comes with a conector with 4 wires coming off of it. 2 for each speaker + and -. You connect the wires and then plug the into the amp.

Re: Amps robbing system of sound

Your talking about the high inputs on the amp, I personally do not use these, I have never gotten that type of setup to work correctly.

If I were you I would go buy that converter(not sure what its called) and use that instead of what your trying to do. The converter has 4 wires that you hook your speakers to, and then it converts the signal into what your preamp outputs of a cd player would, and then you run RCA wire from the converter to the amp.

You could probable find the converter at any electronic store like circuit city or best buy. I have used these on a few different stereos and they work good, and they are much cheaper than buying a new cd player.

This is like the converter you would need. If you have and audio stores around you, you could probable get one there cheaper.

Re: Amps robbing system of sound

2G stock systems work really well with a woofer and amp setup, you really don't need to change your head unit. I ran a 12" JL and a 300 RMS amp on the factory head unit, and that system *bumped*. I later got a 10" in a truck box with a better amp, still the stock head unit, and the system sounded great. I'm actually getting two 12" Fosgates with a cap and an amp being fiberglassed into my trunk as we speak, and I'm assuming it'll work fine. I did need a high-low convertor though.

I would not recommend changing the head unit if you do not want to... the FIRST thing thieves look for is an aftermarket head unit. 80% of my friends and aquaitences have had their headunits jacked along with their entire system, at least once. Knock on wood, but even with my gauges and the flashy BS GReddy turbo timer, my car hasnt been fucekd with yet, I'm assuming its because (a) my head unit is stock and (b) its cracked, ugly and fucked up. Guages and timers and other electronic shit are niche items that dont do well as hot products compared to audio, so they usually dont get picked on. Some may find that being wary of theft is a silly reason (ie, why mod the rest of your car if your worried about shit getting jacked) to stay away from aftermarket head units, but the numbers speak for themselves. When I do plan to upgrade my head unit, I'm going to have it installed either in the passenger airbag compartment or inside the glove box, and let the stock system just chill there. Just my 2 cents.

IMO just tint your windows with 5% so the fuckers cant see in your car to see what you have. Also Eclipse head units have a very good security system! I just got another eclipse unit for my Jetta. There is also 2 JL audio subs and a memphis amp. Also get you a good paging alarm so you know IF someone messes with your shit!

Re: Amps robbing system of sound

That's a good idea putting it where it's hidden. I might have to try that. I live in Minnesota so theft isn't a huge problem, but I'm going to Atlanta for college so I'll probably be worrying a little more about it then.

Re: Amps robbing system of sound

Even with the converter you still might have the same prob, your best bet is to buy a small inexpensive amp to run your rear speakers as well, run off of outputs from orig amp if it has one or buy converter and split. I've never had good luck with using the high inputs on an amp either before, used converter on my old accord when I had it
