Good Car To Start With?

Is the Fiero A good car for someone just learning to drive, like as a first car? I hear it has alot of problems, is this true? I would appreciate any input.

Any running P-bodies (Fiero) left out there are probably pretty good. The reputation of a bad car is mostly undeserved. Avoid '84s unless you're a collector.
As for using it to learn to drive? Make sure it's NOT a manual transmission. They are VERY difficult to install, and the clutch will not survive a learner's foot. If you want a manual trans, best to learn on an old pickup, THEN drive the little P-body.
Fiero is the only American car (up to that time) ever built to Swedish safety standards. Don't let the size fool you. The car is a TANK! My '86 SE took out a '97 Ford Exploder in a t-bone. Totalled both cars, but I simply opened the door and stepped out. The poor kid in the Ford had to KICK the passenger's side rear door open, the chassis was "sprung" so bad.
Parts are available through a variety of sources, too. All in all, not a bad first choice! But of course, I AM a bit prejudiced... (thus the name!)

they are great little cars and a friend actualy drove his 85 all winter up here in maine and said it was great in the snow, unless we had more than 5" of snow on the road. you only have about 5" of ground clearance.
and the car did get a 5 star frontal crash rateing, back then thats all they did. i have seen them after being in accidents and mrpbody is right they are practicly indistructable, i even saw one that ran under an 18 wheeler and the driver walked away.
mrpbody is right changing a clutch on them is a bitch tho, but in there defence anyone that can change a clutch in a front wheel drive can do one on a fiero.
mileage is comparable with cars built today, my 86 se v6 gets 22 around town and almost 30 on the highway as long as you dont push it.
