Engine revs, but no acceleration

Hello.. Last night on my way home I was entering the highway and I pushed on the gas my engine starting revving but the car would not accelerate. I was able to pull off to the side of the road, turned car off and waited a few minutes and restarted. Still nothing! I have had NO slippage problems and only a occassional hesitation(which I see seems to be normal for this car) no warning lights came on either.. It seems as though all the gears are in neutral.. nothing works..

P.S. This car has a new/rebuilt engine(replaced May 2005).
