Question CD/radio won't work after changing battery

Hi, this is my first time here. I have a 2000 Honda Civic. My battery died yesterday, when I had the new battery installed, my CD/radio won't work, and there is a CD stuck in the player. There is not a specific error code, it just says error. I am not able to set the clock, or play the radio. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm wondering how expensive it will be if I have to take to the dealership. Thanks in advance.

Marilyn

Re: CD/radio won't work after changing battery

most honda's have a anti theft device which requires you to enter a code after replacing or disconnecting the battery. first look in the manual and see if there is anything about a reset code or something like that. if not call, the dealer asking them if they know the code. if all else fails take the car into the dealership and ask them about it first. don't let them look around or anything, that's when they start charging you.

hope this helps

Thank you for responding. I called one dealership near me, but they said they don't work on radios?? Then, I called a car stereo shop, and they said they would have to charge me $45 just to take it out, and find the serial number, which I would need in order to get the security code. So, I guess I will be replacing the stereo, it was the stock model that came with the car, and wasn't that great anyway.

Thanks,
Marilyn

Re: CD/radio won't work after changing battery

yeah, shops are gay like that, charging just to reset a radio. i think you'll like an aftermarket one. just make sure you find a place that can install it for free or something. most big places, i.e. circuit city, best buy will offer free installation on decks over $99. when my girlfriend got a deck i put it just because i knew what i was doin, but if you don't know what you're doing then it's much easier for someone else to install it for you.
