paint used on intake plenum?

I am trying to restore the original look of the plenum on engine, but no one knows what the original color for the 3.8 liter engine really is. My paint was flaking off, and along with the rust, there were some corrosion areas that had eaten through the surface of the paint. I have a VIN code (B) engine from 1986. Can you help me determine what the original color was and where can I get some, or who makes it.

I have had the plenum sandblasted so the paint will stick better. Appearantly the paint was used to prvent rust from forming.

Help needed please!

FYI, the olds 98 forum is close to dead, so try the olds 88 forum at the same time. Chill.

As far as i know, the only paint color used on the vin b 3800 was a semi-gloss primer grey color on the block, the rest of the parts are all either plastic or aluminum.

Re: paint used on intake plenum?

Yeah, it is supposed to be that color. Aluminum parts require no paint since they dont rust/corrode easily. A clear coat may have been used, if anything.
