Hi Jim,
We have a 2001 Bonneville SE. It's been a decent car. But... at around 50k we had to have intake gaskets replaced and last week the engine grenaded! I bought the extended warranty when we bought the car. Whew!!!!! I went to the dealership that is fixing it and inspected the junk in the pan. It looks to me like a rod bolt let loose. They are replacing the engine with a 3800 from a 2003 with only 30k on it. Other than that, we love the car.

Jimmy, Also keep an eye out for water leaks past the butyl seals on the water deflectors internal to the doors. There may also be trunk leaks to watch for. The intermediate steering shaft may require lube. Window regulators seem to fail on these cars quite frequently. Although GM has claimed to have resolved the upper intake failure (egr stove pipe) keep an eye out for coolant loss.
