tensioner pushrod or bearing and bracket
So I got my order today from St. Charles Isuzu with the belt, water pump, and tensioner, however, they sent me the tensioner pushrod assembly. From the pictures I've seen posted here, I'm wondering if I was supposed to get the tensioner bearing/bracket assembly? Or do I need both? All the recomendations I've read on this sight simply say to replace the tensioner... I was hoping the Parts guy would know what I was doing and would give me the right part.. hope he did.

Re: tensioner pushrod or bearing and bracket
Here is a picture of what I thought I was getting.

I really like having these conversations with myself.
No, really, I thought I would share what I found out. Just got off the phone with St. Charles Isusu again, and they said that the pushrod assembly is indeed the part that should be changed EVERY time you change the belt. So, technically, while all the posts refer to changing the timing belt tensioner, they really mean the pushrod assembly portion of it. The guy did say you should check the free-spinning of the pulleys once the belt is off, but they should be fine... Last edited by mlingk; 07-20-2005 at 11:00 AM. |

Yep, I've heard that the tensioner pulley assembly and the pushrod assembly were two different parts & had to be purchased seperately. I've seen that tensioner pulley pic online before, but to be honest, I have NO idea what the hydraulic pushrod looks like or how it attaches to the pulley or the engine block!
From every report I've seen, that hydraulic pushrod is the 'wear' item, or the thing that goes bad over time. Thanks for the info.G/luck Joel

Re: tensioner pushrod or bearing and bracket
replace the pulley also. it would suck to have to go back in after 40k miles cause it went bad. and they do go bad.

Re: tensioner pushrod or bearing and bracket
The guy at St. Charles said just to check the free-spin of the pulley, and that they generally don't go bad. It's an expensive part as well.. $250 or something..
