87 s-10 help

I just bought a 87 s-10 4x4. i bought it for a hunnting truck and some thing to play around in but i have some problems i need some help with. First off the a/c and heater both stopped working on it i think it may be the blower motor but not for sure both the radiater hoses are hot. Next i was wondering what the high piched whine is when i get on the gas hard. and last is any sugestions on fixing a rusted through cab mount Im planing on cutting and making new ones any one have any sugestions. any feed back would be great thanks Nuckolls_7

Re: 87 s-10 help

Does the blower motor run? Can you hear it? If it doesn't, check fuses....all of them..... as some my be control power for relays. If the motor runs, then you may have a failed vacuum switch (it is positioned by the function lever on the HVAC panel) or a bad vacuum motor or two. The flapper valves controlling how and what kind (hot/cold) of air is routed through the HVAC plenums are operated by vacuum motors. If they are bad (leaky) they won't open/close the valves. You may have leaking vacuum lines from the engine. If it's an '87 and still has the original vacuum hoses, that would be a good project to attack.

High pitched whine.... from the engine or transmission? Check all the vacuum and emissions hoses for leaks/cracks.

Body, frame, engine and resto parts: LMC Truck (www.lmctruck.com). Go to the website and sign up for their S10 cataolg. I've ordered from these folks and they are good people.

Hope this helps,

Mike

sectors' advice sound:
(on cab mount)
I've used LMC Truck as well, better price than most, and complete coverage for most all components.
(on whining)
where from? eng/trans/rear end???
(heater-A/C)
again sector hit most all of them; also though, feel at the air ducts---
does it feel like either the A/C cold air is in the dash (or heat), but not blowing through? could be the fan motor resistor (usually on air box in engine bay near squirrel cage (blower motor) and A/C evaporator...

hope this helps,

If the blower motor is not working try tighting the bolts that bolt it to the fire wall. This is a known problem.

On the cab mounts try using a hole saw on a drill to drill a hole directly above the bolt the cab is in two ply. you will be able to get to the top of the bolt and drill it out.

I had a whine in my 87 when I still had it and it was the tension pully bearing on the sepentien belt.

Try this site for help. There's a lot of good guys there.

I'm Doing the cab mounts on my 87 S10 4x4 and once i made up a new floor and put into it what i done to make the cups on bottom of the cab was weld 4 pieces of angel iron together to form a square and weld that to the bottom of the cab. then using some long hardened bolts on bolted right down through the floor, using a piece of metal on top of the bolt to make sure the bolt didnt rip though the floor. The Cups on bottom of the cab were 6"x4". And if ur cab aint lined up and needs to go up or down use hockey pucks.
