1995 Ford Taurus SHO electrical

I have an intermittent no-start problem that involves the timing and tachometer operation. Codes indicated #6 on the coil pack and throttle pos. sensor, so I replaced both. Same problem. So, I inspected the timing belt and crank sensor. timing belt in great shape, all marks in line. Sensor was filled with dirt and gunk, so I cleaned it well and tried my luck.
Engine started perfectly about 10 times, but then started acting up again.
Here is the sequence of events:
1. engine will "crank" as if timing is "way off" (hard turn over). Shutting the key off results in the engine turning over normally and then it will start, but then the tachometer will not operate.

Eventually, the tachometer will begin to operate normally.

Other times, the engine will start perfectly.

(* not a starter problem, hard cranking of engine is due to timing mis-read by computer).
My question is: is it possible for the crank sensor to have intermittent
problems or is it normally a good or bad.

Ford dealers have no clue........
