1994 Cherokee Country keeps blowing fuse #2
Frequently, this jeep will blow the #2 fuse while driving and it just dies- and quickly. (The fuse #2 is a 30 amp fuse)
The positive terminal has some, but very little corrosion (about .5" of the copper cable is exposed but not grounding out) where the post attaches so in desperation, was going to change this. Someone said 'change the relays' so I was going to try this as well, just for fun. This has just started happening in the past week and the car may go for 10, 20 or 1 mile before it decides to blow the #2 fuse-- you never know when which adds to the excitement! Any ideas??? |

Re: 1994 Cherokee Country keeps blowing fuse #2
Fuse #2 in the power distribution center (next to the battery) should be a 15 amp according to my wiring diagram. This fuse is in the power wire to the switch side of the auto-shutdown relay. It supplies power (when the key is on) to the fuel injectors and ignition coil. There is also a connection to the alternator in there too (power to the field circuit I believe).
When you check the harness and connections, you are looking for a dark green wire with an orange tracing stripe that connects to the coil, injectors and alternator. Sounds like a possible coil problem, a wiring harness problem, a bad injector or the brushes/rotor/voltage regulator in the alternator.... ![]() JD |

Re: 1994 Cherokee Country keeps blowing fuse #2
The O2 sensor was a first thought too but it is powered off of fuse 15 in the pdc. It is a 30 amp fuse but some of the info could be confused somewhere......
That fuse also supplies the fuel pump & relay and ballast resistor bypass relay JD |

Just to update, with the neighbors help, we found that the circuit normally pulled 15-20 amps but when the ac was turned on, it pulled 30-35 amps. The culprit seems to be the ac clutch. When it clicks in, it must have some issue with its windings etc as it is pulling over 15 amps.. the Haynes manual didnt say much about the clutch but that seems high..? (I recall the resistance on the clutch checked out at 3-5 ohms)
Next trip is to the mechanic with at least, a better sense of where to remedy the fuse blowing problem! |
