90 Marqui, Loss of Power and rough gears

Hi all, me again.

My 1990 Grand Marqui (Canadian Model), has experienced a loss of power since my engine rebuild two years ago, and shifts rough between 35-45 miles of an hour (especially in overdrive).

It has recently started idling rough (sputters in idle and around 40-60 miles per hour).

I have replaced the (Idle Air Valve and Throttle Body Sensor), as well as cleaning out the throttle body. Please help. (will provide any additional info I can.)

These cars are famous for ignition module (TFI) problems. Also check the base timing (the spout connector must be disconnected) and look for vacuum leaks. Don't rule out the obvious - fuel filter, plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, pcv, etc. If your engine is not running up to par, that will make your tranny act like it is ready to take a dump. Any Check engine lights? Codes? If it has never run well since the rebuild, the timing chain installation is suspect. Check your vacuum with a gage, and do a compression check to rule out base engine concerns.

Fuel Filter, Plugs, and Wires are only a couple months old. Took the car in for a tune up, didn't mention any codes (they were supposed to check), they were also supposed to check timing. (not that this means a huge amount).

No check engine lights.

Don't have a gage (any place you would recommend getting one)

By the way, I am hearing alot about the EGR. I have not cleaned that out, and don't know where exactly that is, could that be my problem?

Sorry if I am less than informed (my first car).

from your quick post it sounds like you have torque converter shudder. do a full fluid/filter change.

stick with mercon fluid, not mercon v.
