Question Ideal Issue

We own a 1990 Honda Accord Ex and it has a few issues. Right now we are curious about the ideal issue. We are not sure what is causing. The car only does it sometimes when being driven or just sitting at ideal. The ideal will actually jump..sit at about 500 and drop to about 200. Don't quote me of the rpms it ideals at. The hoes of the intake ripped when I was hit from behind at a stop light. But the ideal problem was happening even before the accident. If anyone as any info or any ideas feel free to send me an email. Thanks.

Idle control valve

There is an idle control valve that gets carbon deposits and quits functioning properly. You can take it apart and clean it. I need to do this on my 97 also. Probably need a workshop manual to do this. Good luck.
