95 escort 5 speed with clutch problems

Several problems. Sometimes difficult getting it into 1st or 2nd gear. Also, when I can get it into gear and sitting at a stop light i can take my foot off the brake (clutch still to the floor) and the car will start moving on its own. I have had someone say there is nothing wrong with it, and they adjusted the clutch cable, but it is still doing it. It was mostly intermitent, but now it seems to be doing it on a regular basis. Any suggestions????

Since the car is creeping forward with the pedal pushed that means the clutch is not completely disengaging. My '93 does not have an adjustable clutch 'cable' and I doubt your does either. It's hydraulically actuated. It should have a clutch master cylinder and a clutch slave cylinder. It works like brakes do. My guess is that either your clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder is bad. First make sure the BRAKE master cylinder is full. That's where the clutch cylinder gets it's fluid from. It's also possible that you have air in the system and will have to bleed it. There is a bleeder valve on the slave cylinder on the transmisson. If you fix this then it will go into gear a lot easier.

Here's a better question a$$hole, what are you doing posting this kind of $hit here, and why don't you have any respect for other people?
This is a place for people to gain answers to their questions and share information on their cars. It happens that we have Escorts. If you aren't a fan of this car, that's fine. Everybody is welcome to an opnion. However, there's no reason to interject this kind of crap without even being asked.
In otehr words, if oyu don't have something productive to add, keep yer yap shut. That's just a matter of respect.

Your correct abut it not having a clutch cable. We tried bleeding the lines and that didn't work either. Will probably replace the slave cylinder next. Thanks for your help!

Re: 95 escort 5 speed with clutch problems

My Tempo is an 86, so this might not work with your Escort, but Ford designed a clutch adjustment where all that you have to do is pull up on the clutch pedal with your foot while moving forward slowly. My pedal goes up about 1/8" when I do this so don't force it.

You might have to do ths a few times.

Even if it doesn't work it's really no effort to try.

Good Luck

And Myescortsucks, did you ever think that it's you that sucks not your Escort.
Buy a rusted out comaro if you want a car to abuse.
See how long it takes to loose your drivers licence while your at it.
I'm sure glad that I don't have to pay for your tickets, and repair bills!

Well, we replaced the slave cylinder and still no luck. It's still doing the same thing. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

95 escort 5 speed with clutch problems

A transmission person told us to do the following to solve our problems. He said to eliminate the check valve on the fire wall or fender well and put the two lines together? Does this make any sense?

There is no check valve on this system. A check valve allows fluid to flow one way and not the other. So if you disengaged the clutch it would not re-engage. Likewise, if you aplied the brakes, they would stay applied. DO NOT LET THIS GUY WORK ON YOUR CAR!
