Re: tachometer

go to prefered parts store, buy what you like, get what you pay for type thing... install is straight foward, grnd, pwr, and you need to hook into the factory tack wire on the dizzy (this is where those directions are handy), mount it and vwala done

Re: tachometer

Ahh grasshopper, but the engine tach lead (the white wire) that is the tricky part. It is actually a test lead (on trucks that don't have a factory tach) and it lives ever so discretely as a break out in a wire bundle along the firewall just shy of the power brake booster; it should be a white wire with a black stripe with a fancy connector.

.... and all the rest like Mr Brisket said.

Re: Re: tachometer

You can actually get to that white wire in your dash board where your gauges meet the factory gauge plug.

Wouldn't it be easier to just find a set of factory gauges with the tach ??? Should be a easy exchange up to 94 and your truck is most likely already wired for tach at the dash plugin.

This is mucho true. I am in the process of converting an idiot light standard instrument package to a full-on factory gauge setup on my '85 S10..... okay, so I'm a masochist....the dash plug for a basic instrument setup is wired *very* differently from that used for the guage setup. I have a factory wiring diagram and there are definite differences in how the dash plug is set up.... it can be changed relatively easily but you have to have the wiring diagram to do it. And, at least on my truck, the white (w/black stripe) wire is not accessible in the dash plug on a base (idiot light) setup.... (why would they put a tach lead in a dash cluster that doesn't have a tach?)... you must connect to the tach lead which is in the engine compartment.

Re: tachometer

exactly, and they thought at gm was, if they dont wire it, and make vehicals more "to order" they save money in materieals and labor, while others (i think ford) says, do it all the same, and that way nothing gets messed up accidently
