#10 fuse burns out (abs, speedo, & break light)

Please help going crazy - about a week ago the abs, speed o went to all dashes, & break light came on. Checked fuses and the #10 was burnt out. changed it and all was well for about 15 min. The fuse burnt out again. Does anyone know what could be causing this? It is driving me crazy!!

First disconnect the following:
1. Brake pressure switch (on master cylinder).
2. AC low pressure cycling switch.
3. Speed servo unit.

Re-install new fuse. If it does not blow, re-connect above one-at-a-time 'til fuse blows.

Thanks for the advice but just another question - Do you know where I would find these switches because the book does not have any of these listed. Thanks for the help!

BTW ... I'm assuming you're working on a '99 or newer. ????

#1. (This probably the bad one.) Brake pressure switch. ... under plastic cowling just in front of windschield. Cowling doesn't have to be removed for this one.... but removing the air filter housing helps a great deal if you are fat armed like me. Just look for round switch on the front-bottom of brake master cylinder. Pull the electrical connector off.

#2. AC low pressure cycling switch. Under hood on RH (passenger) side of car. Look for all the ac tubing. The switch is mounted on the tubing very near the engine belt.

#3. Speed servo unit. Under hood on LH side of car. Look for the servo unit behind battery. About a 4" cube ... aluminum. Also easier if air canister is removed.

Tip on electrical connectors. They are all insanely unique. Can be difficult to disconnect the first time. They all have some built-in clip that need to be up-set to aid the disconnecting. I use a very small screwdriver to up-set the clip latch. Before reassembling, lubricate both parts of the electrical connector ... helps keep moisture out ... and makes later maintenance easier. I use silicone grease or Vaseline petroleum jelly.

The pictures are from my '96....but I'll bet they are the same place on your car.

I replaced the brake pressure switch on my car....so I have a few pictures of that process. The part numbers may or may not be the same for your car......double check at the dealer. The switch is very inexpensive.....and easy to replace.

I had the same thing happen 3 days ago - man am I glad I found this forum, especially this thread! I was sure the computer was on the blink then I checked the #10 fuse - yep, blown. Replaced and blew within 15 seconds. Followed the directions in this thread and sure enough the pressure switch on the master cylinder was faulty. Took a trip to the dealer and $22.71 later everything was back up and running - including the cruise control which went out 6 weeks ago. Thank you for all the info - saved me a bundle I'm sure. - Jimmy
