Odometer Troubles?
I own a small taxi company. I have a problem with the odometer on one of my cars, a 2002 C.V.P.I. Its odometer slips upward in mileage about fifty to one hundred miles after the car is put to rest at end of shift. This slippage is intermittent.
I keep a very tight log on all my vehicles. When I noticed this problem, I personally drove the particular car for several days, watching the main odometer like a hawk. There were no discrepencies while the car was running. The slippage was observed at the beginning of a new shift, usually six or seven hours after the car was parked for the calendar day. For whatever good it did, I conducted a Car Fax data report to see if there was a history of odometer tampering. The report listed no incidents of odometer tampering. I am 100% positive that the car remained parked at the end of a day's use. My questions are these: 1.) Can the interaction between the taxi meter and odometer cause such a problem? 2.) If there is odometer damage due to tampering is it detectable? 3.) Where should I go to fix the problem? and finally, 4.) Will there be any legal hassles in repairing a jimmied odometer, either for myself or for the dealership from where I bought the car? I'd be much obliged for any kind of serious help. Yours truly, Greg from Chicago |

it sounds like it is picking up voltage from somewhere to get it to keep registering.
