oh oh oh I'm on fire....

I hope someone can help with this one.....I will try and keep it short and sweet.

I have a 1990 Dodge Shadow, auto 2.2....the other day I was driving around the city with the A/C blowing at mid range for about an hour, parked the car for about an hour, drove again for another hour same conditions, parked to pick up some dinner (5 minutes), then started up the car and this huge plume of grey/white smoke came out of the hood (seemd focused on the passenger side)....I pulled over and shut it off immediately and opened the hood.

There was a fire behind and below the crankcase, i proceed to pour some water on it, which basically lowered it but didnt put it out....it smelled like burning plastic. It went out after about 5-7 minutes.

I left the car there and went back about 4 hours later and drove it home, no A/C, no electrical on at all (by choice) and it was fine. I have not driven it since, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas what i might be....I must also mention that I do have a small Power steering fluid leak, but it has been like that for a few weeks....

I do not want to take it to the shop and have them bring out the dog and pony show on me because i mention the word 'fire'.....

Sorry I guess it wasnt that short....
