Wobble Wobble Wobble
1994 VL manual trans, for years now it has had an annoying wobble.Everything has been looked at/replaced and it still does it.You can feel it very faintly at 30mph,but hit 60mph and its pretty strong. The center console will vibrate from side to side. The tie rod ends have been replaced, alignment done a couple times, moved the front tires to the rear and new tires mounted out back, new CV shaft, new pads/rotors,engine torque strut, sway bar links....you name it.I'm left wondering...wheel hubs? Control arm bushings? There isnt a lot left.It also pulls slightly to the right, even though the steering wheel is dead-on center when driving straight-away.This car has never been in an accident, never jumped a curb, and the wheels are identically located in the wheelwells both sides.
One final note, after a high speed 8 mile drive, neither tire is excessively hot....so there is no gross misalignment of toe in/toe out. |

Re: Wobble Wobble Wobble
hmmm..... you've replaced everything i would suggust to replace. I am kinda having the same problem right now actually. I have really bad front end vibration at 60+ MPH, but i am also lowered and occured only after that. So its possible that its a hub assembly or maybe even blown from struts. If they cannot control the spring, you'll get some nice vibrations.

Re: Wobble Wobble Wobble
The struts were among the changed items. They are solid....the front end doesnt sway or bounce whatsoever.I have just added a strut stress bar and it makes no different to the wobble either. However the car now handles like its on rails. The wobble is noticeable at 30mph...it comes and goes, but hit 60 and its really noticeable.

Re: Wobble Wobble Wobble
One thing I have noticed....I lifted the drivers side off the ground, removed the wheel, and spun it in gear....the inner CV joint isnt rotating in a circular fashion, its more of an eccentric manner(and there is a click every few revolutions). Its effecting the outer joint as well, and making the hub/spindle/knuckle vibrate rapidly.I think with the added stress of the wheel/tire being mounted its amplifying the problem. The wheel/tire will wobble when spun as well.I will be replacing that shaft and then trying a test run.
Funny,as the boots are perfect (OEM) and the shaft is very tight,no play.I guess the inner joint is binding up. |

Re: Wobble Wobble Wobble
I resolved the same problem by replacing my left front ball joint. Under inspection the joint appeared to be good, but close inspection indicated some excessive play. It was missed by previous inspections. There were no other indicators apparent, strangely enough.

Re: Wobble Wobble Wobble
The problem seemed to be mainly the left front wheel hub,(the flange was bent) and front tires. It now takes a long time to get a minor wobble, and thats well above the legal speed limit.
