96 Grand Am SE power windows
Hi I'm new to the forum and I have a 1996 Grand Am SE 4 door. I don't know much about cars, but thats why I'm asking you guys. I'm having alot of problems with my power windows. One doesn't work, and two more are starting to have problems, eg. they go down fine but they don't go up all the way, you have to wait and push it again and again and they slowly inch up. I've heard it could be the motors or regulators, but how do you check these yourself? I need my windows to work cuz my a/c doesnt (don't know why that is either). Please help! And talk to me like I don't know about cars, cuz I don't. Thanks!

Re: 96 Grand Am SE power windows
will if the window is slowly going up like that i would say that it is definetly the motor going bad on it. Hoever with that car you can not. Just replace the motor without replacing the entire regulator. Also when you say the AC doesn't work do you mean that it will not turn on your that it turns on a blows out cold air?????

Sounds like the window regulators need to be greased, take the door panels off and put grease on the rollers in the window tracks. If that does not work, either the motors are failing or the switch is bad.

Well, I mean when I turn the a/c on, it does not blow out cold air, just warm or hot air. When I bought the car, all the guy said was that the a/c didn't work, and I thought, well I smoke, so I'll always have the windows down anyway, but now the windows are starting to go and sitting in rush hour with no breeze in 95degree weather sux. what should I grease them with? WD40? (don't laugh at me if thats way off base)
