Building a 1/24 Fujimi GT40....

Hey guys.......

I've remortgaged the house an am building a GT40 Mk I replica (scale 1:1) and while waiting for the chassis to arrive thought I would relive my youth and build a model of the car.

I've got two 1/24 Fujimi kits, the '69 Le Mans winner (chassis P1075) and the red Ford GT 40 Mk I. Also bought a HRM engine kit and studio 27 PE grade up parts.

I'm going to start with the chassis modifying it to look more like the original. I will post progress on my web site www.gt40.cc but give me a day or two to set it up.

I'm also building something else.....not a car but kool... www.awatson1.fsnet.co.uk

If anybody has any tips or useful urls please let me know..... at the moment I'm still looking for good scale BRM wheels of the correct width, webber carb snouts and any other goodies for a GT40. Also if anybody need scale reference material I've got most that is avalible.

Thanks in advance guys....

Doc Watson

Wow a 1:1 Gt40? Sounds awesome!
You certainly won't be lacking reference material or motivation?
Good Luck with the build!

Hey Doc,

Can't help with the models, but whose GT40 kit are you going to build? I look forward to seeing the website updates and wish you the best of luck.

I was in the UK GT40 club for a couple of years whilst I tried to find the right spec s/hand car for the right money but nothing that looked like a good deal ever came up. Ended consoling myself that the cockpit's a bit of a squeeze for me anyway, that and I've got a Porsche Spyder rep already!

Welcome Doc!

I've seen your work on SAE and you are quite an established modeler. You will be a great value to this forum.

I cant wait to see what else you have in store. that X-35 is magnificent.

Why not make a thread of your 1:1 project here since it is a model of the real one

Hope you have plenty of time on your hands? Took my mates dad about 10 years to build a 1:1 replica.

Best get that other door off now.......

Thanks for the comments, I have a question....

What do you use to replicate braded lines? I will need them for the oil cooler and all the fuel lines.

Thanks in advance

I used Modellers mesh hose on my GT40. Good stuff if a bit on the bright side, in future I'll probably give it a black wash or coat of Smoke to grime it up.

Well, I make my own braided lines with fittings, take a look here and you'll see that it's not very complicated.
This is going to be intressting to follow, looking forward to the next up date.

Re: Building a 1/24 Fujimi GT40....

Nice tutorial Niclas.

Have you tried turning the hexbar fittings in a mini-drill? This is my preferred method - I use a scalpel blade and files as the cutting tools and with practice you can use it just like a lathe... it makes things like drilling the fittings end holes far easier.
