Some news about one of the crashed McLarens

Found out that one of the badly crashed McLaren pics we have seen is the result of a German owner taking it out in the rain (brand new, with just 28 miles on the clock) and racing it against a buddy of his who was driving a tweaked 959. The owner lost control and took out over 100 metres of armco. He walked away from the crash, and had the car taken back to McLaren for burial. He didn't want it repaired. He just bought a new one.

So that's two production cars that are dead and buried. Peloton, I think you know the story, so could you please provide the pic. Thanks!

mini magic, I don't think it's the picture you posted. The rear looks largely intact. More likely, it's the first pic--maybe Peloton can confirm if it was the picture that GM was looking at when he remembered the crash?

Yeah - the first picture that Peter posted.

Sorry - when I first read this thread I wasn't near my computer and then forgot to come back to it.

I don't think this car was entirely scrapped though, at least that wasn't the impression I got from Gordon's story. Just that this particular owner wanted a new one and didn't want this one back. I'll ask tvrfreak if he remembers it any different, or you can monster.

Re: Some news about one of the crashed McLarens

I asked--according to tvrfreak, GM said it was pretty much a writeoff, but they were able to salvage some small pieces from it and use them on other cars. Stuff like dashboard, etc.
