shreading sepertines

hey got a 90 astro and i have gone through 3 belts in the last yr. i can pull up on the tension belt adjuster with my left hand, i was told i shouldnt be able to do that, all pulley wheels are free , one of the idlers under the alternator is a little wobbley though. i am hoping that something isnt misaligned when it was all put back together, it seems to wear the outside edge first then it just starts falling apart in strips

Replace tensioner and any idler pulleys that are worn. At 20 + dollars each for belts you can replace pulleys ($14 each new) and tensioner ($25 new) for the same price and alleviate your downtime headaches. Try the wrecking yard, or Parts America online.

wow a tensioner for 25, they want 54 dollars for one up here at the parts house. thanks ya those belts are getting a little expensive, 26 dollars each time. thanks, now for the low end clunking noise, very afraid it might be a connectin rod, oil pressure guage gooing into the red too much. thought perhaps a pump, bu t it was replaced a yr ago.

Let's hope not an engine prob. Could be any number of front end parts that are rattling and rolling. Take it down for a free frontend inspection - there are folks that still do the free thing.

Price went up, best price for a new tensioner is Auto Zone at $39. Wrecking yard should be half that price. Check the internet for possible better new pricing, i.e., Parts Plus, NAPA, etc.

Re: shreading sepertines

already got a low end clunking , number 1 cyclender, i disconnected each sparkplug and found the cylinder thats causing it, i will check the crank bearing since its right up there, my crank seal is leaking a bit, and i have notice after 20 minutes of running when i come to a stop the pressure on oil drops to red, and then i hear the ever pressent bomp bomp bomp, been doing that for 6 months, so i figure its not good
