power window only goes down

Howdy!

Here's another window problem. The front passenger window only goes down, not up. Same thing happens when pressing either the passenger or master switch.

1. I replaced the switch with a known working one and it still only goes down. Ok, must not be the switch.

2. Took the door panel off and disconnected the wires to the motor. Using jumper wires I reversed the voltage to the motor and it then went up.

Is there a relay somewhere that I need to replace and where is it???

Thanks!!!

Don

Re: power window only goes down

I have a 98 Passport that is doing the same thing - the driver can roll down the driver-side passenger window, but cannot roll it up. However, the passenger can roll it up/down. Crazy. Hope someone posts a solution, I'm curious.

winodoiw problem

Im not sure if this will help you ab6cr but for chopper I have the same problem but in reverse. I can roll down the passenger window but I cant roll it up.
I ended up having to take the door panel off but what I found was that their was a burned circuit on the board right where the passenger switch was located. Could have been from getting wet or a defective board.
I havent looked for a replacement yet so I couldnt tell you how much it is to replace it.

Hope this helps

Re: power window only goes down

I looked at my subscriptions and realized that I had never followed up on this one.

I ended up just replacing the motor and everthing worked fine. Just make sure to test which way to hook the wires up so the window operates in the correct direction according to the switch. Then "butt splice" the wires together.

A couple of months later my wife was rear ended and the insurance company totaled the Rodeo. We were upset as it only needed a tailgate and rear window. We started looking for a replacement vehicle and ended up at the Chrysler dealer and bought a new 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unliminted Rubicon. My first new vehicle I've ever bought, it is fun to drive on and off road.
I've always bought older vehicles(at least 10yrs old) to save money and worked on them myself. I guess my wife and I are going through our midlife crisis. :-)

Anyway, I saw a used 1999 2X4 Rodeo for sale about a month ago at work and couldn't pass it up so we added that to our stable again. The difference in ride and handling from the 1993 4X4 and the 1999 2X4 is huge. I really like the stability and comfort. Nice rig!
