what is the proper temp for 307 engine

Hello All, I have a 1985 307 engine from a delta 88 and I had to replace the temp guage with a universal one! I need to know what is the normal temp for this engine. when it idles it reaches 200 - 205* when driving it stays around 180 - 190*

Thanks,
Al

That doesn't sound bad depending on where you live and the outside temperature,I hope your sending unit is a match and that your idle speed is correct.

Thanks for the reply.

What do you mean when you say " I hope your sending unit is a match"

Thank, Al

It means that if you sending unit (temp sensor) is not matched to the gauge you could be getting incorrect readings,a mechanical gauge would give you the exact reading.

at if the sending unit (temp sensor ) should be a match to the gauge or you could be getting wrong readings

temperature

Oh! ok, The gauge I installed is connected directly to the top of engine.

Hey! maybe you can help me solve this problem i'm having with my 1985 delta 88 w/ 307 engine and a rochester Q-jet 4 bbl carb.

when I reach speeds of 40 - 50 mph it feels like it's going to stall with a sucking air type sound? any idea what would cause that? keep in mine, this engine is not computer controlled anymore nor is the carb. I replaced the computer controlled carb w/ a non-computer carb.

I had this same type of problem with my Ford f-150 and it turned out to be, the automatic transmission module. the vacume line to the trany module was filling up with trany fluid, causing it to bogg out at around 40mph. so I replaced the trany module and it ran like new.

So! I thought it would be the same thing here, the trany module "NOT". I don't see a transmission module anywhere on the transmission, but when I call the auto part store they say it has one???

the only thing I see is a three wire connector plugged into the driver's side of the transmission, I wounder if it's an electronic module, the one thats inside the distributor cap??? that will cause this bogging out thing?

I still have no answer to this problem.

Thanks, Al
