Engine hesitation while at a stop
I have a 1997 Chrysler Intrepid with a 3.3 engine. The car has approximately 180 thousand miles on it and has been a very good car with no major problems. She sees mostly highway driving and gets regular maintenance. Latley though I am experiencing a problem in that when I come to a stop she jerks and hesitates and has stalled twice. There is no problem with excelleration from a stop or at any speed. This problem is intermittant although it seems to be getting worse. The check engine light does not come on and my mechanic says the light needs to come on to see what is wrong. The transmission was recently service with a new filter and fluid and this gets done once a year. Any one got any ideas on what might be causing this problem?

Re: Engine hesitation while at a stop
Have your mechanic check your EGR system, make sure it's not malfunctioning. Also, have him do a fuel system pressure check to see if there's any problems in the injectors, lines, fuel pump, etc.

I had the same problem and it was the EGR valve. It was a cheap $40 CAD fix if you do it yourself.
