Upgrade suggestions

I am thinking of either upgrading to a 4.3 v-6 or a 305/350. I am looking to do all the work myself and would like to know if anyone can provide foresight into the project. I know a v-6 would be better on gas than the v-8, and the v-6 would be less powerful than the v-8. I also know I would have to have engine mounts for the v-8 and possibly the v-6. The biggest thing that comes into mind is the computer, that I have also seen from other threads would have to be upgraded as well on the v-6 as well as the tranny in either case. If I go with the 305/350 will I need a computer if I go with a carburator vs. F/I? Or is the engine the only thing that is controlled by the computer, does it provide anything for other systems controls? Also would that make my existing wiring harness obsolete or is upgrading it possible? Any ideas, input greatly appreciated. Also if you know of anything that I would need as far as parts to do the switch, such as suspension or other please let me know.

Re: Upgrade suggestions

Here's a site that, a first might not seem to be what you need, but cruise the menus and you'll find the S10 V-8 conversion info......
