96 caravan 3.3 no spark

I need a litle help here. I have no spark on cylinder #2 and cylinder #5 both run on the same circuit from the PCM. I replaced plugs wires crank sensor and coil and same problem. I checked continuity from the PCM to the coil and it is okay, I figure the PCM is garbage so I am looking for a new one. Unless anyone else can let me know of a different cause maybe ? Also I tryed disconnecting the battery to reset the modules now the speedo sits at 200 KM/h all the time and the Tac jumps to the top sometimes too. the car is running cept it is misfiring on those two cylinders obviously. Please any help would be appreciated maybe i wont have to fork out 500 bucks for a new PCM (fingers crossed)

You may have a faulty cam position sensor that is causing the problem. I would replace it first before going to the expense of a new PCM. Also, search car-part.com for a used one it will be a lot less than a new one especially if that is not the problem in the first place. I would also check for a faulty ignition module as it could not be sending a signal to the 2/5 coil and that is why it is not firing.

Thanks for the info where abouts might this ignition module be ? I would much rather try that than replace a 500 dollar computer ! I thouht the only module that controlled spark was the PCM on 96 models.

Look directly under the coils. There should be a flat module that the coils plug in to. That may be the cause of the problem.

There is no seperate ignition module it is one sealed unit. I bolts directly to the engine I spoke to a drivebilty tech at chrysler today and he mentioned a series of plugs just above the tranny that may be corroded so i am gonna check that if it isnt that then I will buy a new cam sensor just in case only 50 bucks , then (gulp) time to buy a 500 dollar computer. I looked for one on car part.com but no one has the matching number for my van. *sigh* i think I also have to replace the body control module as well so that will be another 350 bucks I am so happy I bought a caravan. My Villager is 3 years older and it is fantastic, Jeeez! I appreciate the help I'll keep ya notified as to my progress *that is of course assuming i can afford the internet after all this nonsense! LOL

Re: 96 caravan 3.3 no spark

Why don't you search for a used PCM and BCM for your van. I know they are not new but by buying one from a wrecking yard you can save at least 50% of the cost. And if it turns out that that is not where the problem lies you have not lost $500 bucks especially since most PCM's are not returnable once installed. Good Luck!
