Im currently running around in a white 79 EB Civic!

My cars getting 3rd gear fixed, (finnaly) so im useing the loan car.

And it rocks! for a 1200 im amazed at how damn fast this thing is!
It seriously gets up and boogies, and would have been a real little hot hatch back in the late 70s.
It even has great handleing, despite having some rather dodgy tyres on it.

For those of you with B16a powered cars, dont rev above about 3,500 to 4,000rpm and you'll get a good idea of what this can do.

The only problem is I keep forgeting its only a 4spd and go looking for 5th.

Well technically, they aren't EB Civics as EB is an engine designation. The cars are actually SBCs

I love the things more than 4Gs I have to say, having owned a RS1200 (76bhp instead of 50-55 depending on whether it's a EB1/2/3) and about 6 other SBCs from '73 to 78. The things have a nice bit of torque to them, especially when you toss in a '80s EN crank and rods plus 5 speed (which is very close to the RS1200 ratios).

I have 2 that I'm looking at currently - one which is stock and a '77 with a Mugen motor, brakes and LSD in it (plus Kamei front spoiler, flares and Mugen rear wing). Unfortunately it's in pieces as it was hit from behind 10 years ago. The Quad Keihins are great for power to 120-140bhp with a R1 or Yoshi cam, not mindblowing or in B16A territory, but the cars only weigh 660-700 kilos and have a tight little chassis and great suspension for their era (even better if you can find '73-'74 shocks which have inserts and can have konis dropped into them).

Ok, I'll shut up, but the damn things are my passion more than any other Honda

My first car was a '78 1237cc hatch!!!

My Dad and I rebuilt the motor and I drove it to about 140k miles, before it finally died. Mine was the non-CVCC version with 63HP, and I also only had the 4-sp.
It was a fun little car and if I knew then, what I know now, I NEVER would have gotten rid of it. Back at ol' PureHonda I saw a late 70's wagon with an early (olive valve cover maybe?) ZC in it. - now that would have been damn sweet!!!
Long live 1st gen Civics!! (or are they 2nd gen? - lol )

Well thats pretty muchwhat Iv got at the moment.
Its only done 88,000ks so its in very good condition.

Its great to drive, does 100k up all the hills, and Iv managed to pass several cars in the last few days.

The best thing about it is its got a large exhaust leak between the manifold and the down pipe, so its damn loud, and pops like a heavil tuned race car on the over run. I get some freat looks driving it downt he road.

The ex Honda Works Gp N car im crewing on is as fast as my SiR from 0-100 and its only above 100kph that I start to gain on it. but only just.
And its only got about 100hp. 140hp would make them damn damn fast cars.

Hpefully in November Ill be able to get some times around a Taupo part raceway and see which car is actualy faster.

Hmmm... my old worked car was certainly quicker off the mark than the SiR, it pulled 100 in 7 seconds, only marginally faster, but I was running a city turbo gearbox which has top end and torque ratios in it compared to the EB 4 speed. Then again, I had as much torque as the SiR as I recollect, the engine was massively out of proportion. 73mm bore compared to an 82mm stroke (EN1 crank and rods). Factory 1224s were 72mm bore and 76mm stroke (geez, I hope I got that right off the top of my head). EB1s were 70x 76 as an 1170cc motor.

The only issue was that I blew the mugen headgasket twice at 7500 rpm and cracked the head once when I shaved it too much. You don't have that sort of an issue with a SiR.

I'll dig out some mugen/bassini (jackson racing)/dell orto pics later. I think I have a whole ton of them somewhere but only a very few of my car

was the one you saw with a zc in it a red wagon? if so, the guy has a black valve cover zc in a 79 wagon(he's running high 13's and high 12's with happy juice with traction problems through the first three gears on slicks). im doing the same conversion in my 80' civic wagon and am looking to be done by the end of may

hey ive got a eb2 civic one of the coolest cars i built the engine it's got dellorotto dhlb 35 carbies a tams cam, fully worked bottom end, en pulleys, redline air filters accord brake booster on a set of 175 tyres not many cars can launch it at the last honda drag day i was able to hold oof a 14sec crx 4 200m but unfortunatly its up for sale so if ya r interested give me a call

I didn't think I was ever going to find a discussion here on these old Civic’s. I am bias as I have two of them and I had a real hoot of one as my daily driver last year until I decided it was too risky driving into the big city traffic.
This year it has sat mostly in the garage, (still running on last years gas) while I have been searching for rare and hard to find parts.

I was just here posting about my non Honda daily driver, when I thought I would look around the honda section to see if the old Civic's get talked about. Sorry I did not see your posting on the manifold, did you make it and what is it made from, and what carbs are going on it?

well it's made of aluminum (kind of a no brainer there) i used the flange off the stock manifold for the head side and cut a piece of 1/2" aluminum to fit on the carb side and i got some 35mm ID tube for the runners. the carbs i am using are Weber 40 DCOE 28's, here is a pic with the carbs mounted. i did most all the work in it except of the welding, i had a local shop do it for me. what you see in the pic has been modified slightly since, when making it i didn't account for the tilt of the engine when mounted in the car so i had to cut the carb side flange off and have it rewedded properly and i opted to cheep out and have it mig welded at work for free so the new welds don't look quite as nice on the carb side (which were tig welded) i also have added a vacuum fitting on the no. 1 runner for the brake booster.
