Air conditioning problem
I have a '99 Silverado with 168,000 on her. The a/c belt broke about
15,000 miles ago.... had a new one put on... it broke after 8,000 miles... had a new tensioner and belt put on... so far so good as far as breakage. The problem now is that it seems to work, blowing cold a/c in the morning usually, but it cuts out sometimes and just blows warm air. I've noticed on the freeway sometimes, if I stomp on the peddle, it will start blowing cold air again. This also happens while stopped.... if I accelerate fairly quickly, it starts blowing cold air. Does this sound like some sort of switch problem, clutch or what? Thanks for your help! Bob |

Re: Air conditioning problem
Sounds like maybe the clutch on the compressor is too tight or something? Perhaps your Compressor is going and is near seizing????
Or you may be getting low on freon...

That's odd. The A/C should blow WARM air after full throttle accelleration, as the clutch normally disengages to reduce drag and comes back on when normal driving is resumed.
Maybe Chuck's right and you should have your freon checked. When freon is a little low it will cool well until outside temp and humidity go up. |

if it is breaking belts then i would guess the compressor is locking up or the belt is way to tight but i would say get a new compressor
