gm intake gaskets
im gonna try to change my intake gaskets so i went out and got them from gm their the one with the blue outling anyway are those the same ones gm has being using , i heard that gm uses fel pro ,and i heard felpro had a new design but i cant find any gaskets here but at gm. So i basically wanted to know are the gaskets they are saleing the same old ones that are known to leak Also what kind of silicon sealant do i need?

Some engines w/rubber endseals get a little red silicone. If it's just the gasket, I clean up the surfaces good and just put'um together.

If I were you I would go to Advance or Autozone, NAPA or other parts store and purchase the gaskets. They will probably have the felpro gaskets you are looking for. I find that the aftermarket gaskets are far superior, in most cases to the OEM gaskets.

ok well i still have to questions where do i put the rtv sealersis it jus on the end where its a curve on the block ?
als i havent tried autozone or advanced but i did go to napa and they told me that they were just going to order them from gm if i was to purchase from them so i might as well go to gm myself

As long as the silicone can't get into the intake ports, it's ok. If any gets into the intake or exhaust ports, it may mess up your oxygen sensor(s) and give you some other troubles to chase.
Which motor are we discussing?

Generally the RTV is the black sensor safe type and only goes on the ends of the manfold. You don't need it anywhere else. Make sure you get a good seal between the ends of the gasket and the RTV at the end, front and rear of the manifold. You may want to run the bead of RTV up the gasket a little bit, but only at either end.

i founf the felpro gaskets at autozone so i bought those it came with the rtv . but i think i get what your saying it jus goes on the left and right edge of the manifold i tyhink its called the valley front and back than the gaskets no rtv than the manifold also what is the torque for the felpro gaskets

Intake manifold bolt torque:
Carb. models-45 lbs.ft. FI through 1987-32 lbs.ft. '88-'90 all models-10 ft.lbs. '91 & later all models- 88 in. lbs.

aw ok i have a ib torque wrench though and 1996 3.1
i have one more question what is the senosor that is that on the passenger side that had the wires coming from it with one little bolt its the only wire thats there when u take off the lower intake manifold. it sits on the right side of the water pump and it looks liek it has something to do with the cooling system Last edited by datpimp1; 07-20-2005 at 01:05 AM.
