Exhaust

Correct me if im wrong, but the stock exhaust system on the 3.8L T-birds suck. Its dual from the engine, dual cats and all, then it goes into a 2 into 1 muffler, then from there, into another muffler. Have any of you guysput an exhaust system on these cars, a true dual system, with only 1 muffler on each pipe? How much of a power change did you notice?

Re: Exhaust

Each bank has a cat, then into a single cat, then through a resonator, then through a single muffler. You won't gain a respectable amount of power unless you can open up the exhaust manifolds. The manifolds are the biggest restriction in the entire exhaust.

Re: Exhaust

Are exhaust manifolds from a super coupe the same, or different performance wise?

Re: Exhaust

You can get headers from a 3.8 stang, but you might have to make them fit I'm not sure exactly how the would bolt to the T-bird exhaust.

The SC manifolds are the same as N/A except that the passenger side SC manifold does NOT have the O2 sensor in it, it's located lower down on the exhaust pipe just below the manifold/pipe connection. All driverside manifolds are the same whether they're SC or N/A.

Porting factory manifolds is the common practice. I have a pic somewhere on my webspace that shows the comparison.

hope this helps,

'bird
