Angry A/C Compressor Not Getting Power

Help! On The way home from yet another hot, humid,BAD day at work the A/C was working fine stopped at a red light, got on it pretty good and all of a sudden it got really warm in my car!

It's a 1988 Regal 2.8L, got home started checking fuses all are good. and the a/c relay only has one hot terminal, Also checked the connector to the compressor no power, does the so-called "convience center" have any fuses/circuit breakers for A/C and yes it is still fully charged with R-134 refridgerant done the retrofit myself 2 years ago worked fine since

Thank You for ANY Help.

Try checking the high/low pressure switch on the accumulator. Pull the wires off of it and make a jumper wire. If the compressor kicks on it is probably a bad switch.

Re: A/C Compressor Not Getting Power

the only thing that i would think that would be that is on the high side line not far from the accumulator and it has three prong plug, two seem to have system voltage and the other ground, could i leave it jumped to drive it? and which ones to jump? anybody have a wiring diagram for the 88 regal A/C System cause my chilton manual sucks!

It would only be a two prong plug, directly on the accumulator. You can drive it jumped as long as the pressure is not too high or too low.

if the compressor comes on when you jumper the low side plug your A/c system has probally leaked out enough so it wont come on. if you drive it with it jumped you will smoke your compressor and repairs will get expensive.

Re: A/C Compressor Not Getting Power

there are two plugs on the compressor i removed the one closest to the front of car and jumpered it and it works!, and i thouroghly checked the pressure and it is right where it should be, must be the high side switch that just crapped out
thank you for your help!!
