I asked my boys over at XPP-Racing about your problem. I use to take my 3000 to them before I totaled it They said it would cost right around $700 parts and labor to do it. The timing belt, oil pan, and of course the oil pump needs to come off. They also said to keep in mind that when the main bearings go up, you can loose pressure that way too. Hope I was of some help.

700 parts and labor...hmmm. here's another opinion. http://www.bobthegreat.com/pages/myc...rbo/index.html --> click on Oil Housing. Bob says you don't have to remove the timing belt, which would cut down the labor time by at least 1 hour. you could do all the labor yourself, its pretty simple for anyone mechanically interested. you might have a friend help.

Re: cost to replace oil pump?

Also you could check www.thepartsbin.com for a cheaper pump.

-15Gs, 3sx aluminum pulley, FMIC, SAFC, walboro pump, EVO 560ccs, and Meth Injection Kit all waiting to go in shortly.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

the oil pump goes over the crankshaft. the lower timing gear goes around the crankshaft. Impossible unless you cut the oil pump in half. I'm sure someone could do it cheaper, but it has to come off. But then again, bob isn't changing the oil pump in that link. He is changing the OIL FILTER HOUSING!!! Before you try to make someone look stupid, read carefully.

my bad, ya, i guess i didn't read it carefully enough. After looking at the penguinhousing.net link, timing belt removal is necessary.

so ya, welcome to the board . nice to meet you too! mistakes are made, and overlooked here. we try to be nice about correcting people. but if you wanna spend 200-250 labor, and if you've got the money to throw around, then have at it. I was just trying to show you that its a simple job (in fact, the timing belt, though time consuming, is actually easy too) that you could do with a friend and save some money, since not all of us have money to throw around.

Hey, I'm not trying to start a fight. But you did try to make me look bad. I know everyone makes mistakes. I've made alot myself. I was trying to help just like you were. I've been a member of several other forums and everyone wants to fight. I was just going on the defensive. Sorry about biting your head off. I'm all for people trying to do the work themselves, but some people really have no business working on there own cars. But they find that out when they bend valves.

Let's start over!!! Thanks for welcoming me to the board. (lol, I'll ignore the flip).
