97 Blazer w/ Tranny issues
Hi all,
New to the board have read extensively on here about the tranny issues. I believe i have narrowed it down to the Sun Reaction shell Gear housing. Obivously it could be any number of things but based on what i have read it seems to be the most probable. I will be having a fluid exchange (not flush) + filiter done on monday. Never had any service to tranny since i bought it @ 74,000. Currently has 109,000. U joints were replaced about 3 to 4000 miles ago. This is what i have. 1997 2 door 4wd 4.3L. When vehicle accelerates at low speeds hesitation in tranny shift is slight. On merging onto a freeway or giving it some gas engine sounds like it is shift late, engine sounds like it is reving higher than what it should and there is a jolt (not to severe) as it shifts into the next gear. It is noticable on all gear shifts not just 1 or 2. I still have r 2 & 4. There is no SES light. Any input would be appreciated. I know i should start with the fluid exchange and go from there. Thank for the wealth of information on here. Has helped me out a lot. |

Re: 97 Blazer w/ Tranny issues
If you have reverse, 2nd and 4th, the problem isn't the reaction shell. It will be hard for us to tell you what the problem is without the check engine light on. Make sure you check back in after the fluid and filter change.

Re: 97 Blazer w/ Tranny issues
TCC solenoid will be in the center of the pan, towards the nose of the truck. However, before going too crazy, *do* perform the fluid and filter swap. But also, use the search feature to investigate "Ignition switch". Its been found that the ignition switch in the '97 vintage can have contacts corrode or gunk up over time, preventing full voltage to the transmission. Trying to suck up current through a bad contact's a lot like trying to jog, breathing through a straw...uncomfortable at best. Check the angle on what a cruddy switch can do to the tranny and see if it fits your symptoms. It usually will toss a series of weird codes and erratic stored codes too that may not light your MIL/SES light on the dash but still cause latent problems with shifting.
