Bin Laden Speech 11/01/04

Thought I'd post this link for reference or discussion because the main stream media only ever gives us the tiniest snippets of anything Bin Laden has to say. Even Al Jazeera only aired 4 minutes of this speech which was actually 18 minutes long. I would have thought that people had more interest in what the world's most wanted boogeyman has to say.

Very interesting. His message seems to be, "Leave us alone and we'll leave you alone". I doubt there will be many readers, though.

Mr. Bin Laden seems to be quite aware of the situation, and his perspective is refreshing.

Aah...that would be the Fox News version...

You could apply many labels to Bin Laden, but I don't believe "idiot" is one of them. (...then again, he was trained by you know who...)

Osama says the same thing about the US....funny that.

The situation was like a crocodile meeting a helpless child, powerless except for his screams. Does the crocodile understand a conversation that doesn't include a weapon?

Do you have any basis at all for your viewpoint that it won't stop if you leave them alone? It is a popular viewpoint among some sectors of your society so you should be able to find something to base it on ..... maybe ....... anything?

Conversely, Associate Professor Robert Pape of the University of Chicago is purported to have world's the largest database of suicide bombers. Here is a snippet from an interview with The American Conservative showing what analysis of that data reveals...

TAC: Has the next generation of anti-American suicide terrorists already been created? Is it too late to wind this down, even assuming your analysis is correct and we could de-occupy Iraq?

RP: Many people worry that once a large number of suicide terrorists have acted that it is impossible to wind it down. The history of the last 20 years, however, shows the opposite. Once the occupying forces withdraw from the homeland territory of the terrorists, they often stop—and often on a dime.

In Lebanon, for instance, there were 41 suicide-terrorist attacks from 1982 to 1986, and after the U.S. withdrew its forces, France withdrew its forces, and then Israel withdrew to just that six-mile buffer zone of Lebanon, they virtually ceased. They didn’t completely stop, but there was no campaign of suicide terrorism. Once Israel withdrew from the vast bulk of Lebanese territory, the suicide terrorists did not follow Israel to Tel Aviv.

This is also the pattern of the second Intifada with the Palestinians. As Israel is at least promising to withdraw from Palestinian-controlled territory (in addition to some other factors), there has been a decline of that ferocious suicide-terrorist campaign. This is just more evidence that withdrawal of military forces really does diminish the ability of the terrorist leaders to recruit more suicide terrorists.

That doesn’t mean that the existing suicide terrorists will not want to keep going. I am not saying that Osama bin Laden would turn over a new leaf and suddenly vote for George Bush. There will be a tiny number of people who are still committed to the cause, but the real issue is not whether Osama bin Laden exists. It is whether anybody listens to him. That is what needs to come to an end for Americans to be safe from suicide terrorism.

Going OT now, but since you mentioned the Israeli's, I thought I'd post the following quote from Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Seymour M. Hersh ...

Bin Laden isn't an idiot? What label would you rather be put on him, Mr. Rogers?

Bin Laden is supposedly an educated, intelligent man. Just because we are at odds with him doesn't make him an idiot, any more than Khruschev was an idiot.

I'm sure that many Iraqis think that Colin Powell is an idiot; but clearly he is not.

Funny thing......... Since we are talking about the suicide bombers and failed to mention that they have been killing more Iraqis than they have of troops. All of this CNN and really just journalism in general is a bunch of crap, you would be very supprised to see what is actually happening over there. The "boaring" stuff that we do like rebuild cities, improve schools and health care facilities that goes unnoticed. The media doesn't report any of that because it goes against their agenda.

As far as Bin Laden goes, I would agree with you both. I would in no way call him an idiot because he is obviously very smart as a leader, but I would call him ignorant in that he failed to realize that we get more pissed off then the rest of the world about acts of such. And we DON'T LOSE!!! The only time that happend is when we pulled out. When you stop assaulting and police you don't win, because your agenda has changed. And when you said "well he was trained by you know who" do you mean the USA, because that the "you know who" that trains troops are the Special Forces and CIA. I know SF guys and I sure wouldn't think it. As far as labeling Bin Laden I guess I would label him more like a rag head with a deathwish that is too afraid to actually strap the bomb to himself.
