Engine Question?

I changed the oil for the first time last night. I have the 05, 2500 HD, 6 litre. I noticed it looked like the engine block was steel and the heads were aluminum. I thought all the new motors were all aluminum. Is this a good thing or bad thing?

Thanks,

Joe

Talking

The only aluminum block in the gas engines is the 5.3. It is 310 hp and 335 torque. It is only avalable in the extended cab Z71 4x4.

May the force be with you,

Don

Greetings Dlstewart,

It was my understanding that in 2005 Chevy has two gas engine 5.3 motors. One the standard unit is 295 horse and has the cast iron block. It is the engine used in all the Power Package options and units. My understanding was the 5.3 aluminum block engine was an "option" choice and in somewhat limited supply and at additional cost. Do I have this correct?

Let me go back. The aluminum block is only offered in the GMC ext cab Z71. That would be model TK15753. It could possibly be offered in other models in the Silverado. The Vortec 6000 only comes in cast iron block. I work for a GMC dealer.

May the force be with you,

Don

My 6.0 is a one-off prototype that is all titanium and produces roughly 1000 hp.

Sorry. I'm in that kind of mood today.

May the force be with y'all.

Re: Engine Question?

May the force be with you is just a catchy little phrase. Nothing ment by it. So lighten up. And by the way I just saw on the news that Scotty has died. You know "beam me up Scotty". I am NOT a Treky. I just like the phrase.

Good judgement comes from experience, However most experience comes from bad judgement.
