hey guys, im new to this kind of stuff, and i was just wondering some stuff, and i posted this in the "corolla" forum as well. I just got a '89 rolla DX a few days ago, and think i want to mod the junk out of it. anyways, im thinking, and ive heard good reviews of the 4AGZE engines... and i was wondering if its possible to swap the stock engine with a 4AGZE ( by the way, i dont even know what the stock engine is, but its carburated) and i was thinking of replacing the tranny too because ive heard that a 4AGZE can ruin other corolla trannys if a turbo is installed, and the 2nd gear is literally gone.... so i was thinking of getting EVERYTHING i need for the 4AGZE (electronics, a new manual tranny etc etc.) so basically, it boils down to this, i want to throw in a 4AGZE engine with a new 5 speed tranny, and turbo charge it which would leave my car twin charged (a stock supercharger comes with a 4AGZE engine if im not mistaken) and ready to cruise. Then ill worry about the more minor engine mods and do something to make the body look more appealing.... are my dreams possible and will it be easy if i get all the required resources? anyways, thanks for your help.

P.S. anyone that knows where i can find aftermarket body mods or performance mods for my car, PLEASE feel free to shout them out, it would be greatly appreciated. thanks again.

anything is feasable with enough knowledge and enough experience...ask this question on club4ag.com there more equipped to help u out over there.... and twincahrging a 4agze isnt the best idea, you can only kit so much air into such a small motor, ud be better off turboing with a midsize turbo if your looking for all around power

well, i posted on club4ag.com and so far no reply, i guess ill do some more research on it while i wait, but ive never heard of it being done before (the engine swap for a 89 Rolla DX) so, wish me luck, BUT i did do some research of that twin charge idea, and celica, you were right, i found a site where a guy did it, and his engine didint last long. so i looked for a turbo but it was in vain. i searched yahoo and google and no turbos came up for the 4AGZE engine....

look for turbo kits for a 4age, its the same bolt pattern and will pretty much work, to be honest all you need to turbo a 4agze is a turbo and manifold, the new charge pipes and a pop off valve, shouldnt cost you more than $500, and you can use ur existing intercoolar and all the good stuff.

actually, would it just be easier and less expensive to find a different car? (AE or 240SX) to work on? because mt 89 Corolla DX is looking kinda rough, rusty over the rear wheels, whick i dont think is a panel, so either bondo, bodyshop, or let it be... the trunks a bit rusty, and also above the front wheels... i guess the rust isnt very bad, but then again my 2 gear is stripped out too... so what would you do? i also cant seem to find any body mods... so i dont know what to do exactly, im just kinda looking for some other opinions....

if you really love this car, then dump the rediculous amounts of money into it to fix it up, if not, buy something that would cost less for the swap/ be easyer, look better, and handle better...rem,ember having a fast engine isnt the only thing that makes a car

i actually didnt buy it, it was givin to me. the thing needs so much work my friends mom didnt want to deal with it, so its now mine lol. im thinking ill gut it out, drive it around with only the front seats, just strip EVERYTHING i dont need from the car, and use it as a daily driver and a race car for the ice races... lol. that could be fun. but anyways, im trying to get ahold of an AE, 240SX or mitsubishi starion, but they seem to be harer to get to then the president himself.... any suggestions on where to look?

Hey guys, ive decided to keep the car in one piece and do my best at restoring it... but i need some help from anyone who has info to offer. I would like to either find a bigger engine than i got and swap it (if you guys know if its possible) or rebuild the engine i got right now. Do any of you know about how much rebuilding an engine would cost? its a 4 cylinder 1.6 liter (i believe) and its carburated (yay for old ways!!! lol). i have driven the car before the tranny problems arose (SHHH!!! the cops dont need to know....) and the engine even with the mileage it has, hauls ass (i got it going 95 with no problem, dont tell the cops that either :P ) so im guessing a rebuild would do wonders if i cant get an engine capable of swapping. as far as the tranny goes, do any of you know where i can find one? ive looked and there is none to be found. and for those who have restored cars, how would i go about fixing places of the car where it has rusyed all the way through? i havent checked the drivers side, but i KNOW that the passenger side under the rear door is rusted away, that whole corner, and was hoping to fix it. any help here guys is appreciated VERY much so. P.S. does anyone know where i can find some spring for lowering it? ive heard cutting them isnt the safest and makes the car handle like crap, let me know.

well, im laughing hysterically. i was attempting to clean the engine a little when i came arcoss TONS of paper towel and garbage. upon digging into it jusnk heap further i found my missing owners manual LOL. and i was just about to open it up and skim through the pages when my friends like "DUDE!!! LOOK!!!" and on the cover of the manual it reads as follows:

LOL, apparently my grocery getter has 4 wheel drive and im still in awe... well i opened the manual up and went to the Engine/Chassis section of it to see if i can find anything at all about the engine, and i did confirm that the engine is a L4 1587cc 1.6L DOHC A.K.A. a 4A-F. but i cant find any engine mods for this engine.... arrrg... atleast i got 4 whell drive, rofl
