i just got my car.. and i have been looking for ways to up the horsepower. i've spent many weeks online looking for parts and have come to the conclusion that an engine swap is in order. what engine should i go with. i want to keep the car carbureted.. are there any good carbureted engines that i could easily put in my car

well to up your horsepower your probably going to have to go FI because you actually loose horsepower with a carb and i am not quite sureif there are any good engine swaps if you want to stay carbed

I think that they make some DOHC ZCs that are carbed (brown top i think) that are supposed to put out like 115hp

Re: 86 crx hf engine swap

You don't loose power with a carb, it's just a different type of fuel delivery system. Carbs are actually cheaper and easier to modify than an FI system. The benefit of FI is that is has better engine management which leads to better fuel efficiency.

The JDM '85-'87 Integra DOHC D16A1-ZC was available in a carbureted version. But finding the carbed intake is as difficult as finding a MUGEN EW turbo kit (not gonna happen). You're better off constructing your own carbed intake manifold for a D16A1 motor or converting your car to FI.

The easiest way for you to get more power would be to keep your stock motor, bolt on an SI cylinder head, use your existing carbed intake but construct an adapter to mount a larger carbureter.

From there you have some room to grow. As your budget allows, you can go to a larger cam, header, ported cylinder head, etc.

i like the idea about replacing the cylinder head. what kind of problems could i run into doing that? how much horsepower would that add? i would replace the carburetor along with that, but i have a few other questions.. one of the few things that i did find online was a turbo kit for my engine.. is that a good idea or will that blow up my engine. i have very little knowledge about cars and am trying to start somewhere. i would appreciate any information about upgrading my car.
