Exhaust

I have a 1996 Chevy K-1500 4x4 shortbed single cab with a 5.7, What kinds of exhaust systems are good for this truck. What would be a good size exhaust that would give me good performance and sound good also?

Re: Exhaust

Run a 3 inch pipe from the cat back to a FlowMaster or MagnaFlow brand muffler (or whatever brand you prefer) and then run two 2 1/2 inch pipes out the back or sides. Should sound good and give you plenty of bottem-end. I know the FlowMaster Super 40, 40 Series, and 70 series sound good with Chevy engines. I'm in the works for a new exhaust myself, and have been researching on it. I'll get something within a few weeks. Most performance mufflers give a pretty throaty sound. I have a 40 series but it's pretty old and the tips broke off. It drones a lot in the cab, so I don't like it as much as some of the newer stuff. Good luck with your setup of choice!

Re: Exhaust

Do you have dual or single catalytic convertors? My truck is a 96(for the most part). It has dual cats so I went with a true dual 2-1/2" setup with both pipes exiting the stock location behind the right rear wheel. I had a 90 Suburban and it had a single cat so I went with single 3" and turbo muffler just like the factory.

Either single 3" or dual 2-1/2" will give about the same performance on a stock truck. The single will be alot cheaper to have done at a shop though. You can also get aftermarket systems form Summit Racing or Jeg's in many different setups and sounds and prices. Just do a little research and figure out what is best for you.
