I am wondering what kind of gas milage you guys get. I am running the 31's on 4.11 and getting less than 15.

Re: Gas milage
I get 16.22 MPG on completely stock 1993 YJ 5 speed 4L Inline 6. I had to calculate things because I get 300 miles on a 70 liter tank of gas. So i got metric and english numbers combined. I drive this thing really hard, on road and offroad. Its gotten stuck in miud up to the top of the wheel wells. I just installed a new o2 sensor that doubled my gas mileage from before with no o2 sensor.

I get about 250 miles out of a tank of gas and I'm running 33's on 3.73 gears, so I figure my speedo is about 17% off. Basically I get about 292.75 miles on a tank of gas and it usually takes 18 gallons to fill which is about 16.25 miles per gallon.

Why do 4 cylinder Jeeps get such bad mileage if they only have 2.5L?

Re: Gas milage
Maybe because the 2.5 doesn't have much power, so you have to feed it the gas to get anything out of it. Add that to the fact that Wranglers aren't the most aerodynamic of vehicles and you've got your answer.
I may have had a bad O2 sensor also.

My sister's 97 Wrangler has a 2.5 and it's gas mileage is crap. I was driving it on the highway doing about 70 mph and when I would start going up a hill it would lose speed even with me on the gas. I mean this thing is great off road but it is definetly not built for the highway whatsoever.

Re: Gas milage
Honestly, how much do you expect out of a 2.5 trying to push a barn door down the road @ 70?

Re: Gas milage
I used to cruise at 75-80 regularly with mine. Until I hit the mountains, that is.

Re: Gas milage
You're right I did expect too much. I'm too used to driving a 96' Cherokee 4.0 High Output that wouldn't slow down for anything or anyone.

Re: Gas milage
We have a 2004 Rubicon w/ the 4l. It's a great engine. Anyway, it gets about 15 average.

I get about 23 on the highway and 15 in town. I have a:
2.5L 30 in Dayton Timberline A/Ts 4.10 gears The fastest I drive is about 60 though. Anything above that and the MPGs drop fast! |

Re: Gas milage
I think about swapping in a mazda engine all the time. They get great milage. 6 series gets 800km per tank.
